VEDUTE DA SANT’ELMO
Date: 2022
The panorama from Castel Sant’Elmo represents one of the privileged points from which to observe the historic city. Its predominance on the landscape has characterized, over time, its external image of a fort that looms over the esplanade below to the sea and its continuous presence is perceptible from Posillipo to Ponticelli. The project of the views does not have as its objective the representation of the panorama in the most classic of ways, that of looking out from the defensive walls of the military structure. It points to an unusual point of view that aims to enhance the architectural peculiarities of the castle in a way that has no documentary purposes, but is set as a black and white research of the play of light on buildings which in their simplicity – characteristic typical of fortified architecture – they are of such a modernity that the dating of the artifact takes a back seat. Furthermore, the characteristic of emphasizing a few architectural elements, such as windows and doors, make the fort an architecture with a Mediterranean flavor and not limited to the context where it is located.
